The Flicksville Room

Flicksville Room Flicksville is one of the oldest villages in the Slate Belt. Its inclusion in the Slate Belt Heritage Center is integral to our rich history. The Flicksville Historical Society was founded in 1989 to search for history in preparation for its 200th year celebration. In tracking the incorporation date of the village, the Society noted that the old gristmill had an imprinted date of 1791 on its façade. This documentation helped the Society assume the buildings erection date and the incorporation date were close enough to establish 1791 as a celebration date.

Flicksville GristmillThe Historical Society, housed at the Flicksville United Church of Christ, was granted a room at the Slate Belt Heritage Center. The room contains artifacts, including a slate booklet that was used in the one room schoolhouse made in the village by the Griffin Slate Company. The room also includes an old church organ that was presented to the church in 1941 by the Gleeners Class. An authentic Golden Eagles uniform, whose lodge order had its roots in Flicksville, is also on display in addition to the Flicksville Bicentennial Book that provides a wealth of data on all the businesses and families relative to the village. The book embodies an interesting section on the Flicksville Cemetery. The room also features ledgers from the Flicksville Slate Factory and curiosities such as the two-handled teacups.
